John Juanda is very good
John Juanda may not be as well known to the general public as Daniel Negreanu for example, but he is definitively up there as far as poker results go.
John was born on the beautiful island of Sumatra in Medan, Indonesia, but he is ethnically Chinese as Indonesia has a large population of Chinese educated people.
In 1990 John Juanda came to the United States to pursue his studies at Oklahoma State University, and then at Seattle University where he got an MBA.
It was around that time that John took notice of the game of poker. When Juanda moved to Seattle, he could not wait to hit the poker tables and would spend hours playing poker during the weekends.
John Juanda started in the poker tournament circuit in 1996 and rapidly ascended to its summit. He is now one of the top poker pros representing Full Tilt Poker.
Often nicknamed luck box, and he even admits it himself luck has often been on his side, but luck is not enough to produce the type of results that John has demonstrated year after year.
John has earned four WSOP bracelets, all in different poker variations. In 2002, in the $1,500 Triple Draw Lowball Ace to Five for $49k. In 2003, both the $2,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Split for $130k and the $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha for $204k.
Last but not least, John Juanda won the Main Event NLHE of the second WSOP Europe in 2008 for a cool $1.54 million.
John has one of the highest number of money finishes at the WSOP, 49 (9th highest number of cashes ever achieved). He went as far as 31st in the Main Event in 2005.
John has been successful in many other poker tournaments. In 2005 he won the Monte Carlo Millions Consolation tournament. In 2006 he won the Crown Australian Poker Championship for $733k.
John Juanda has not yet succeeded in getting a WPT title, but he has come very close, reaching the final table 6 times, even finishing second at the Bellagio Season 1 event.
